One of the states we visited last year was South Dakota; that was really nice… so it is natural to assume that North Dakota was going to be also something similar and it didn’t disappoint!!
I always heard about The Badlands of ND. Not surprisingly we kind of know why this area of ND is known as Badlands. In the past explorers would come from the East traveling in fairly flat grounds; then, suddenly you find yourself in the middle of small canyons, muddy and extense areas with very little vegetation to eat from: this is a Badland

Scotty making the entrance to the Badlands; we past Bismarck and planned to stay for a few days at Medora!! It is like Sedona in Arizona; small towns in population but completely transformed as turists flock to spend summer holidays. Two different activities are on order: a musical show and a visit to the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. We did both!!

Next day was all about Theodore Roosevelt Park; he was so devoted to this area that he said he wouldn’t have been able to be president of the United States if it wasn’t for the time he spent in Medora.

At first I thought it was a rat!! Then a rabbit, even a gerbil and it happened to be a Prairie Dog; they abound in the fields; they’re always busy making caves and bringing food to the small critters.

We then decided to pay a visit to the world’s largest Bison, an animal that we adore, here it is!!

Resemblance of an old town right next to the Bison structure

It was the time when Interstate I-94 was constructed and this artist came up with the idea of making a monument of the beast standing in a point where travellers would take a good view of it.

View from the distance

Now, change of topic, vintage cars. It is incredible but it seems to me that you see old cars that once were shiny family vehicles lying on the farms grounds getting rusted just waiting for someone to pop up, buy them to be refurbished!!. For someone who loves cars, it breaks my heart seeing these beauties abandoned and hit by the nature elements. You see them all over the US and Canada.

These ones in particular are a Chevrolet Impala 73 and a Chevrolet Montecarlo 78
Back at the campground and time to cook a nice meal

And time to plant not one but two small palm trees. Kary was so nice that she even helped me dig the ground for these two plants! She promised she’d water them frequently

One more state and the map looks perfectly shaped !!
In the next chapter, the 10,000 lakes state!!
