New York

SCOTTY SAID: CHIEF!! DO YOU WANT ME TO TAKE YOU FOR A RIDE TO TIMES SQUARE? OR WALL STREET? OR ROCKEFELLER CENTER? OR PERHAPS CAMP FOR A NIGHT AT CENTRAL PARK?

CHIEF SAID: NOT IN A MILLION YEARS SCOTTY…. YOU’RE TOO BIG AND BECAUSE OF THAT, I CAN’T ACCEPT YOUR PROPOSAL!! THANK YOU BUT NO, THANK YOU

SCOTTY SAID: WELL, THAT’S DISAPPOINTING!! WHERE ARE WE GOING THEN!!

CHIEF SAYS: LET’S STICK TO UPSTATE NEW YORK!! YOU’LL LIKE IT!! SHALL WE?

However, we managed to see the big city from the distance…. that’s the closest we drove near The Big Apple. I’ve heard of horror stories of motorhomes being caught in massive traffic jams and, even worse, crashing an underpass due to very tight height restrictions.

So, in the end we decided to visit upper New York state. We started off by visiting one of the Great Lakes, Lake Erie. For sailors this has been one of the most terrifying passes as weather can change and, because it is shallow, waves can be dangerously choppy. Just for the record, there are hundreds of shipwrecks at the bottom, particularly from the past century. You can have water that is as calm as a pond one moment. Then, within minutes, groups of huge vertical waves can be smashing down on you separated by intervals of just a few seconds….. dangerous!!

This map shows a record of tall ships sank at Lake Erie. Speaking with the locals, this happened in old times when trading of merchandise was at its highest level. Pennsylvania also shares the same lake and stories.

Claudia looks quite happy on the shores of Lake Erie!

We had promised our friends Astrid and Jose David who live in Hamilton, that we were going to make a deture and pay them a visit!!. This was the chance also to see ( again) Niagara Falls from the Canadian side ( we did it from the US side a few years ago).

Niagara Falls KOA

It’s always nice to invite friends over and offer them a BBQ!

It was all about Niagara Falls at night, including fireworks!! But you have to wait until 10 PM if you want to see the show

The fall doesn’t stop impressing you! At times it looks scary to be that close!!

As it happened, it was my birthday the following day, so Claudia said… we should go out for dinner and celebrate your day from the heights of Skylon Tower, a 520 ft tall structure that offers breathtaking views of the Falls!

Very grateful for the opportunity to celebrate my birthday in style!! Thank you linda!! ♥

A birthday present in the shape of a round of golf is always welcome! Having played in Canada means this is country number 19 on my list!! So happy for this

How about a tree for NY? Tree number 34 went to the grounds of the campground in Syracuse

Another state, another tree and another mosaic of memories!
