We have been enjoying beautiful weather in the southern states whereas I heard that some of the areas in the north, are getting snow already. So, after leaving the great Gulf Shores National Park, we headed to Mississippi!! And because we were already enjoying the views of the shores of the Gulf of Mexico, we decided that we should continue having the Gulf at our left side rather than drive north to the capital, Jackson; so, we made reservations at the Majestic Oaks RV resort in Biloxi!! Nice coastal city.

We crossed the 1,000 miles milestone in Mississippi. For those who are doing the 49 states, it is almost a norm to post this map on the wall, either outside by the slide-outs or inside. We opted for the latter to keep it protected by the elements.

The RV resort ended up being great!! We extended our staying for a few more days just to enjoy the city and to do some work on Scotty.

Commandment number 1 in RVs…. You shall keep your tires black shiny and alloys chrome shiny…. and that’s what we did!! Remember the hub cover that we lost back in Alabama? A new one arrived through the post and I installed it making sure it won’t fly away again… Also, the access handle made of acrylic wouldn’t lit so I ordered the appropriate light bulb and voila!!
Well, if we go back 17 years we may remember that the city of Biloxi was in the news for a very bad reason…. Hurricane Katrina . Parts of this coastal city were devastated not only by the fury of the high winds but most importantly by the surge of sea levels which reached a staggering 21 ft ( about 7 meters). Quite a few homes were just wiped out of the map and all you can see now is plots of land… empty…. Some new buildings and homes can be seen but many empty sites that were once beautiful sea front mansions, are now deserted.

In commemoration of the victims of this terrible natural catastrophe, the authorities back in the day built a couple of monuments in memory of the dead.

By this time of the year when the northern states embrace the cold weather and all what it represents (high wintery winds, snow, cold rain, etc) the so called ” snow birds” start their migration to the south in their motorhomes…. and Mississippi is not the exception for those who want to stay for the next 6 months in better climates. But we have to admit, Florida is the winner state that is preferred by most RVers.

Scotty surrounded by similar motorhomes

Of course there was also time for a night-out and live music!!
Tree number three!!
Tree number three is a beautiful Red Myrtle that found a great home at the back of the RV resort. The man who runs the show is the greatest Marcus!!! What a great man, his superb personality and welcoming attitude made us feel so good during our time in Biloxi.

While I was digging the hole, we enjoyed the stories of PJ, a member of the military who was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan for nearly 2 years… he now works full time for the RV resort. His help was appreciated!!

And finally, another day and another lovely sunset in the Gulf of Mexico’s horizon…..
