Maine

In the summer of 2024 Scotty the RV was delighted to see the Pacific Ocean from the distance. A few months and a few thousands miles later, now Scotty is found flirting with the North Atlantic!! Nowhere else than in the eastermost state in “the lower 48″….. Maine.

Having left New Hampshire’s sunny and dry days, we arrived in Maine just to learn that something called “nor’easter” would give us an unpleasant welcome in the shape of a storm 😂. Oh well…. it’s not the first time we have to live the experience….

We were lucky to camp at the Timberland RV Park near Bar Harbor; which by the way, boasts the largest sites we have ever seen…. more than 100 ft for Scotty and for Ford the toad!!!

Those blue skies from the previous day mean just one thing: it’ll be cold the next morning, we will even see frost for the first time in our adventure

ACADIA NATIONAL PARK

But then the big surprise comes: we’ve been hearing about a superb National Park that ranks 4th among the US National Parks in beauty…. Acadia!!! What a beautiful friendly park. We felt it was much more friendly due to the fact that you can actually walk the trails without the fear of a bear encounter!. Even though there may be, they’re uncommon; same as the moose, not even in pictures!!. The park is so large that you need at least one week to get to know it. We decided to do Cadillac Mountain and the Park Loop Road, the Jordan Pond and Sand Beach

It was freeeeezing!!!

The last time I touched waters from the Atlantic was 3 years ago in Florida.

It was funny but we saw 3 weddings happening at the Jordan Pond!! It must be of good luck!

Claudia actually likes to walk!! But I walk too fast so I have to make frequent stops for her to catch up ☺

It was actually convenient to visit the park as the government shutdown continues as no one will ask you for admission tickets ( cheeky monkey me 😂)

But, for Cadillac Mountain you need to get the QR code for access at a small price ($6,00 per car)

CAPE ELIZABETH AND PORTLAND

If you want to be in a town that moves its economy based on lobster, then come to Portland…. restaurants and fisheries in every corner… well… sort of

What’s the story of these kind of bumpers? These are bouyes  on the surface of the water, which are attached by a rope to a trap on the seabed. Each buoy is painted with a unique color pattern that identifies the owner, and the owner’s license number is also printed on the buoy or its tag. You can see them all over the place hanging in people’s homes or businesses.

So!! What about the nor’easter storm?

For days we have been checking the weather on TV news so we decided that it was more prudent to stay put in Cape Elizabeth and postpone our trip to Boston for a couple of days…… it was a good decision as we did not have any rain at all!! And Boston and outskirts were inundated

However, as cold weather is approaching fast, campgrounds are shutting down and certainly they look deserted! We were one of the very few to leave before doors are closed in New England

TREE FOR MAINE

The tree number 37 for Maine was planted at the Timberland RV Park and both Morgan ( manager) and Matt ( gardener) were so happy to be the recipients of this Purple Pillar tree

It’s a wrap for Maine, part of the Top 10 most beautiful states of the country; famous for being the single largest producer of blueberries and lobsters in the US, the first place in the country to see the sunrise from Cadillac Mountain, and home to the largest moose population in the lower 48 states. It is also the only state to border just one other state, has over 4,000 islands, and is the only state with a one-syllable name
